James Cameron Denies Shooting 'Avatar 2' Footage During Dive

'If they think of you first as a filmmaker, then all of the exploration stuff must be so that you can be a better filmmaker,' he tells MTV News.

When James Cameron returned from his record-breaking deep-sea dive to the Mariana Trench, many people assumed the expedition must have been for a movie, most likely "Avatar 2," which is said to involve the oceans of Pandora.

But Cameron, when he spoke with MTV News, insisted that is simply not the case. "Completely spurious rumor. People try to connect the dots, right? If they think of you first as a filmmaker, then all of the exploration stuff must be so that you can be a better filmmaker. Wrong conclusion," he said. "That's like [saying] 'A frog with no legs is deaf.' "

The director said the two aspects of his life are connected, but not in a way the rumors suspected. "The correct conclusion is I do the movies to pay for the expeditions, so every once in a while, I have to come back to make a movie," Cameron said. "It's pretty much that simple."

Even with films planned for the immediate future, Cameron doesn't seem that worried about his explorations getting in the way. "I think the studio execs that want another 'Avatar' film are probably more concerned than I am," he said.

Cameron's trips to the bottom of the ocean are admittedly dangerous, and he spoke openly about the potential risks involved with that kind of exploration. "I would say watch out for implosion. When a pressure vessel implodes at that kind of pressure, it does so at supersonic speed," he said. "There are things worse, though, like coming up outside of the search area, because you're bolted into the sub. You're going down pretty far. It's possible to come partway up, get moved 25 miles in a current before you come all the way up. That would be bad."

According to Cameron, that kind of morbid thinking is what prevents actual tragedies from occurring. "You could freeze to death at the bottom, you could have a fire inside the sphere and asphyxiate — all kinds of bad stuff. The reason you get morbid is by going through all the scenarios ahead of time, you're doing the engineering to prevent them and you create all the procedures to prevent them," Cameron said. "It's basically what NASA does. You list every single thing that could go wrong, and then you do everything you can to have that not happen."

As for where Cameron hopes to explore next, he said the ocean will keep him busy for the foreseeable future. "We have a vehicle now that can go, by definition, to anywhere in any ocean in the world. If it can go to the deepest place in the Challenger Deep, 65,000 feet down, it can go anywhere else," he said. "There's so much yet to be explored. That's an unknown continent on our planet. Think about Google. You can basically call up a satellite photograph of some hill in the Congo in seconds, but you can't do that underwater. I could be exploring down there for the next whatever."

Japan's Resident Evil 6 bundle costs $1,300: nets you a leather jacket, doesn't make you cool
Engadget has seen plenty of limited edition items looking to lighten the wallets of oil barons and hedge fund managers alike. Now Capcom's readying its bundle for Resident Evil 6's Japan launch and it includes protagonist Leon's leather jacket -- available in sizes S, M, L and XL. A complete set of as-yet unrevealed "tablet cases", supposedly emblazoned with character designs will also arrive in the set, as those wealthy enough to afford the 104,000 yen ($1,300) set presumably have at least four devices to garnish with Resident Evil livery. Japanese one-percenters can hit up the preorder site -- with their choice of jacket size -- at the source below.

HTC Titan II review

Image

Titan. It's a ballistic missile and one of Saturn's moons. The word also plays a huge role in Greek mythology and in normal use refers to something of enormous power and influence. So it's understandable, then, why HTC seems to prefer it as a name for its phones. So much so, in fact, that the release of the LTE-enabled Titan II on AT&T actually marks not the second, but fourth iteration of the name: if you recall, the company once released two Windows Mobile devices called the TyTn.

We had mixed feelings as we watched the latest Titan get introduced at AT&T's Developer Summit in January. On the one hand, we were intrigued by the idea of a smartphone with a monstrous 16-megapixel camera, as well as LTE -- something the world previously hadn't seen on a Windows Phone device. But the announcement also took place a mere two months after its predecessor launched on AT&T's network, which gave us the sinking feeling Ma Bell's new strategy was to crank out a plethora of refreshed phones boasting only a couple of new features (see: the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket). So what of this sequel we have before us? Will it come out victorious like Remember the Titans or a disaster like Titanic? Is it worth it to new customers to shun the free Nokia Lumia 900 and shell out $200 for this guy instead? Follow us down the page and we'll fill you in.

Even With IVF Technology, Woman's Biological Clock Still Ticks: Study

div>

By Katherine Harmon
(Click here for the original article and podcast)

More and more women are waiting longer to start a family, thanks to widely available family planning and changing social norms. These days at least one in 12 women has their first child after the age of 35.

As natural fertility declines through a woman's 30s and 40s, many are turning to in vitro fertilization, or IVF. In the last decade, the number of women over 40 who used IVF jumped more than 41 percent. With news of women giving birth after 60, fertility seems almost indefinite.

But IVF and other reproductive technologies cannot extend a woman's baby-bearing abilities forever. Even the success of assisted reproduction drops off dramatically after 40. So says a report in the journal Fertility and Sterility. [Nichole Wyndham, Paula Gabriela Marin Figueira and Pasquale Patrizio, "A persistent misperception: assisted reproductive technology can reverse the 'aged biological clock'"]

Many much-older mothers have become pregnant with donated eggs, rather than their own. The study notes that one solution for women who wish to delay pregnancy is to freeze their own eggs years ahead of time.?

But when family planning for the long term, it might be wise to realize that even the stork eventually gets too old to fly.

How much do golf simulators cost?

To be honest you can find golf simulators in all price ranges, starting from a mere few hundred dollars to even 60 thousand dollars. But the important thing to note is what your actual purpose of getting it is. Some people just want it for fun and entertainment while some need it for setting up a small business while some serious golfers look to train themselves using these simulators.

If it is just for fun/ entertainment purposes you should look for simulators which range from 300 to 500 bucks. They are good enough to give you a nice break from your hectic life and relax for some time. Being so inexpensive it is obvious that you are not going to get all the features but you definitely will enjoy your game. Usually company offering such simulator give only basic system which consists of software and some sensors, you will have to get the computer system and screen on your own.

Most people already own these things so they will definitely not have to spend the extra money. Also the software provided is not very advanced and hence can be run on any normal system and does not require and high configuration to run.

If you are business minded and looking to setup a simulator to make profit then the above systems are definitely a big NO. The reasons? Obviously when you setup a golf simulator center, the people visiting you will be professionals and you do not want them to leave only after fist visit. These would be your potential customers, so you want them to keep returning to you on a frequent basis. For this you need to setup full fledge golf simulators which can even cost you 40K bucks per simulator.

But considering the returns, it won?t be a pain. Most of the companies have reduced the price and you can almost get all of the top end simulators in 20k to 40k ranges. They are priced much higher because the software is very advanced and can almost detect all of the balls and clubs properties using high end sensor systems. Along with that you also get the popular golf courses bundled.

?If you belong to the last category i.e. a professional looking to improve the game, then there are many options available. It all depends on what aspect of the game you want to improve. There are varieties of simulator designed for particular game. Some are specially designed to improve your swing by showing you your swing and helping you find your problem areas. Some just helps you putting while some which can help you improve you overall game. When I say overall game, then you should definitely get the ones mentioned above for business owners.

Hope the above article helps you get the right golf simulator at the right price for you depending on the category you belong.? ?

Will SpaceX build a new launch pad in Texas?

The company known as SpaceX is considering building a rocket launch pad in the area near Brownsville, Texas.

Expansion-minded rocket venture Space Exploration Technologies Corp. may add a small Texas town on the Gulf of Mexico to its list of rocket launch sites.

The Hawthorne, Calif., company, better known as SpaceX, filed a document with the Federal Aviation Administration saying it was taking its first steps toward establishing a launch pad in Cameron County, Texas.

SpaceX already has a launch pad in Cape Canaveral, Fla., and is building a launch site at Vandenberg Air Force Base, northwest of Santa Barbara, Calif.

Company spokeswoman Kirstin Brost Grantham said SpaceX is considering multiple potential locations around the country for a new commercial launch pad. The area near Brownsville, Texas, along the coast, is a possibility, she said.

"There is a long way to go before this could happen," Grantham said.

Texas has long been associated with the nation's space program because of the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston. But that's the mission control center, not a rocket launch site.

Only four U.S. states _ Virginia, California, Alaska and Florida _ have active launch sites.

The new document, which became public Tuesday, declared that SpaceX was preparing an environmental report for a possible launch pad and added that the company was gauging public opinion.

"SpaceX proposes to construct a vertical launch area and a control center area to support up to 12 commercial launches per year," the document said.

Gilberto Salinas, executive vice president of the Brownsville Economic Development Council, said that as a city in the southern tip of Texas, Brownsville was ideal for rocket launches.

He added that in the early days of NASA, Brownsville was considered as a possible center for space operations before officials settled on Cape Canaveral. "All these years later, we're glad to be looked at again," Salinas said.

SpaceX builds its Falcon 9 rockets and Dragon capsules in a vast complex in Hawthorne where fuselage sections for Boeing's 747 jumbo jets were once built.

The company also has a rocket-testing facility in McGregor, Texas. To date, SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket and Dragon capsule have had two successful test launches from Cape Canaveral.

On April 30, SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket and unmanned capsule are scheduled to lift off from Cape Canaveral into space, where the Dragon will dock with the International Space Station in a demonstration for NASA. If it's successful, SpaceX would be the first private company to dock with the station.
